Boomer's Story

Boomer is one of the biggest reasons we chose to become involved in animal welfare. His story began in the Metro Vancouver area, where—at just 3 years old—he was found wandering the streets alone. Thankfully, the local Humane Society brought him into their care and soon found what they hoped would be his forever home.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to last. Shortly after being adopted, Boomer was returned to the shelter. His new guardians explained that their demanding work schedules meant they could no longer give him the time and attention he deserved.

That’s when our paths crossed. We had just moved from Coquitlam to Vancouver and, for the first time, finally had the space and stability to welcome a dog into our home. In Vancouver, small dogs in shelters are often adopted before their profiles even go live—so we were incredibly lucky to have come across Boomer the very day he became available.

We took him for a short walk to get to know him, and within moments, we knew he was the one. We signed the adoption papers that day, and he came home with us that night.

Boomer lived to the ripe old age of 18 years—an incredible milestone for a Miniature Pinscher—and we believe that the love, care, and companionship he’s received over the years have played a big role in that. Together, we've shared countless memories: mountain drives, camping adventures, visits to friends across Alberta and B.C., and the joy of welcoming new family members along the way. He's embraced almost all of them with his bold, affectionate spirit.

After 15 incredible years by our side, Boomer peacefully passed away and is now waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge. Though our hearts ache with his absence, we’re grateful for the time we shared. His life was filled with love, adventure, and comfort, and we take pride in knowing he always felt safe and deeply cherished.

His memory lives on in everything we do. Boomer’s journey is what inspired us to step into the world of animal welfare, and it’s in his honor that we continue this work today. He taught us what selfless love truly means—and we carry that lesson forward as we help other animals in need, and support the people who love them just as fiercely.
